Source Layout Check
In this tutorial, we'll walk you through the process of using the source layout check feature in Smartcat. By following these steps, you'll learn how to pull a video into Smartcat for review, view and edit subtitles in the source language, and approve your changes. This stage is crucial for checking the accuracy of transcription subtitles in the source file before moving forward with the translation. It’s easier to make these changes a single time in the source file than have to fix multiple files in target languages later.
Step 1: Bringing a file into Source Layout.
The source layout check in Smartcat allows you to pull a video into the platform. It may be enabled by default, but here’s how to make sure you have it set up in your project. This gives you the ability to view the subtitles as they exist in the source language. This needs to be added as a step during the project creation before the AI Translation step.
Step 2: Modifying the File
After pulling the video into Smartcat, you're able to modify the file like any other subtitle file. This includes adjusting the line spacing and editing any content. Taking a bit of time with the source file saves a lot of time in later stages.
Step 3: Editing Subtitles
To edit subtitles, simply click within the box. This allows you to make any necessary changes to the subtitles.
Step 4: Approving Changes
Once you're satisfied with your modifications, approve the changes. You can do this segment by segment or mark the entire file as processed.
Step 5: Processing the File
After approving the changes, process the file. Be aware that you won't be able to edit the file after it's been processed. Once the file is processed, it'll move to the next stage and proceed to translation.
