FAQs
I entered a new email address but the update didn't go through. What happened?
The new email address may already be associated with an existing Smartcat account. Use a different email address.
I forgot my current password and can't access the Email and password settings. What should I do?
Go to the Smartcat login page and click Forgot password to reset it by email.
Do I need to verify my new email address?
Yes, a confirmation email will be sent to you when you change your email address.
What happens to my old email address when I associate my account with a new address?
Smartcat releases the old email address, which becomes available to use on a different account in the future.
What if the email address I want to change to is associated with another of my user accounts?
The email address must not be linked with any account in Smartcat in order for you to add it to an account. If you created a profile by mistake with your email address, reach out to Smartcat support to delete the account so your email address is available.
Do I lose access to my projects or tasks if I change the email address associated with my account?
No, all access and permissions remain the same.
Can I merge two Smartcat accounts registered under different email addresses?
No — Smartcat doesn’t support merging two accounts. Each account keeps its own profile, client connections, jobs, and payment history under the email address it was registered with, and none of that can be moved to another account. This includes pending offers: if a client sent work to the account you don’t use, that offer has to be handled from that account directly, or the client needs to re-send it to your preferred address.
There are two practical ways to make this easier, depending on what you’re trying to do:
-
If you want to keep using both accounts: switch between them cleanly by signing out of the one you’re currently using before signing in to the other, or open the second account in a private/incognito window or a separate browser profile. That keeps the two sign-ins from interfering with each other.
-
If you’d rather consolidate onto a single account: choose the account you want to keep, and ask the clients who currently send you work at the other address to start inviting you using the email of the account you’re keeping going forward.
A related option is changing the login email on one of your accounts — but an email address that’s already registered to another Smartcat account can’t be reused. If you want to free up an email that’s stuck on the account you no longer need, delete that duplicate account first (contact Support if you need help with this), and the email becomes available to set on the account you’re keeping.
