Smartcat Subtitle, Dubbing, & Video Editor
Welcome to this comprehensive guide on how to use the editor for modifying subtitles, changing dubbing, and producing clear global content. By following this tutorial, you'll learn how to manage multiple target languages, adjust reading speeds, and select from a variety of AI voices. You'll also discover how to preview your work and download your video in different formats. Let's get started!
Navigating the Editor
Step 1: Familiarize yourself with the editor layout. You'll notice two columns: one for the source language (in this case, English) and one for the target language.
Managing Multiple Target Languages
Step 2: If you're working with multiple target languages, click the drop-down menu to switch between them.
Modifying Segments
Step 3: To modify a segment, simply click on it.
Step 4: Observe the reading speed (measured in characters per second) and the lines for the subtitles.
Step 5: If a line is too long, split it to improve readability.
Step 6: Adjust the duration of the subtitle and dubbing as needed. If the rate of speaking is too fast, extend the time it has, or combine it with another segment.
You can also edit the timing within the timeline. Depending on how zoomed into the timeline you are, you can get very granular with timing to the fraction of a second.
Choosing an AI Voice
Step 7: Explore the variety of AI voices available. You can see the list of voices we have available along with the recommended languages here.
Step 8: Select an AI voice by language by clicking the relevant option.
Step 9: Note the relative speed for each selected dubbing voice. A higher value is a faster voice.
Previewing Your Work
Step 10: Listen to the entire clip or a single segment by clicking the "Preview with AI voice" option in the subtitle.
Finalizing Your Video
Step 11: Once you're satisfied with your video, mark it as processed.
Step 13: Preview how your video will look and sound by downloading it.
Choose to download the video with pre-baked subtitles (either translated or original), or download the video with just the translated version. If you only need the subtitles, download them in SRT or VTT format.
