Course Creator Tutorial
In this tutorial, you'll learn how to create a 30-minute short course on prompt engineering using the SmartCat course creator. This tool offers a flexible and interactive way to convert extensive materials into engaging learning content.
Getting Started
Step 1: Access the Workspace
- Go to your workspace page. - Click on the Create Learning Content button.
Step 2: Select Microlearning or Create Course
- Choose Create Microlearning to start designing your short course, or Create a Course for longer courses.
Uploading and Transforming Resources
Step 3: Upload Resources
Upload your materials in a variety of different materials. Smartcat will use these to help create your course content.
Defining Course Focus and Adjusting Elements
Provide a course description that goes over the subject focus of the course and key areas of focus. This will help the AI select which content to focus on from within your provided materials.
Step 5: Define Course Participants, Goals, and Prior Knowledge Required
Provide a detailed description of the course participants and their goals to shape the level of detail and style of the course. Providing their prior knowledge will help the AI focus on the content that needs to be covered without duplicated information from other courses.
Step 6: Adjust Course Elements
You can choose to add or remove course elements to suit your course design system and learning needs. Only selected elements will be automatically created, but you can add further elements manually later as well.
Setting Course Duration and Generating Description
Step 7: Set Course Duration
You can set the course duration to meet your needs. The AI will design the content and selected elements to match this duration.
Step 8: Generate Course Description
- Click Generate course description. The system will create a suitable course title and description based on the provided information and files.
Building the Course Foundation
Step 9: Review Course Title and Description
Observe the generated course title. You can adjust the title structure if necessary. Read through the course description to ensure it meets your requirements. You can manually make changes or click the lightning bolt icon to have the AI make another attempt with your suggested feedback.
Generating Learning Outcomes
Step 11: Generate and Review First-Level Learning Outcomes
Smartcat will automatically provide two or three base first-level learning outcomes. Then you can generate second-level learning outcomes.
Step 12: Add Additional Outcomes and Modify Existing Outcomes
You can adjust the learning outcomes manually or via AI. Simply click the lightning bolt icon to have the AI make another attempt with your suggested feedback. Clicking the three dots will let you add extra outcomes. When you're ready, click Generate outline.
Creating the Course Outline
Step 13: Generate Course Outline
Smartcat generates an outline that includes various types of learning correlated to the set learning outcomes.
Step 14: Review and Modify Outline
Review the generated outline. It will include each type of content you selected, with each component being tied to an outcome. To modify any part of the content or change it to a different modality, click the three dots next to the item.
Generate Learning Contnet
You can adjust various settings within each item to customize it before generating content.
Step 15: Adjust Duration
You can adjust the time duration of an item to suit your needs. This can be helpful for increasing descriptiveness of content.
Step 16: Generate Content
After modifying the settings, click the Generate Content button. Smartcat will process uploaded materials, such as PDFs or PowerPoint documents, to create the learning content for the modality.
Reviewing and Refining Content
Step 17:
Review the generated content. If adjustments are needed, click Regenerate. Then you can provide feedback and Smartcat will incorporate your feedback and try again.
Creating a Quiz
Step 18:
Smartcat's Course Creator includes a robust quiz creator. Create a quiz by clicking Generate Quiz. You can set the number of questions and decide if there should be a single or multiple correct answers. Smartcat will then create a set of questions for your review from the provided materials and the created course elements. Each question will be tied to a learning outcome. You can modify and regenerate questions just like any other element.
Finalizing and Branding the Course
Step 19:
Preview the course to see a brief overview of what it will look like. This is useful for making any final adjustments before completion. Adjust theme settings such as fonts, colors, logos, and other branding elements by clicking Theme settings.Preview what the course will look like on different devices like a laptop, tablet, or mobile phone by selecting the corresponding preview options.
Finalizing and Branding the Course
Step 20:
When you export the course, you can select from a variety of settings. You can choose to export in SCORM 2004, SCORM 1.2, PDF, or DOCx formats for easy distribution. Smartcat also supports exporting as a multilingual SCORM file, or you can choose to export a single language at a time.
