Intelligence Fabric: your central hub for translation memory, glossaries, and language insights

Overview

Intelligence Fabric is the central hub in Smartcat where you manage the assets that shape your AI translations — your reviewed translations (formerly translation memories), terminology (formerly glossaries), and language guidance.

Intelligence Fabric also builds these assets for you automatically. Give Smartcat your website link or a previously translated document, and it extracts your terminology, translation memory, and tone-of-voice preferences. Your AI translations start matching your terminology and voice from the first project.

Intelligence Fabric introduces a new object, Language Insights — a collection of the tone, terminology, audience, and style guidance that describes how your content should read.

When to use it

  • You are setting up a new workspace and want your AI translations to match your brand voice and terminology from the start

  • You have existing translated content (on your website or in documents) and want Smartcat to learn from it automatically

  • You want to manage your translation memory, glossaries, and language guidance in one place instead of navigating separate screens

  • You are demonstrating Smartcat and want a single view that shows how your linguistic assets fit together

How it works

Open Intelligence Fabric Dashboard

  1. In the left navigation sidebar, click Intelligence Fabric → Dashboard

The Overview shows your current assets and an Enrich your Intelligence Fabric section with quick actions: Upload files, Scan website , and Connect to…

Sections of the Intelligence Fabric dashboard

The Intelligence Fabric dashboard organizes your assets into three groups: Agents, Skills , and Memories. Each group contains specific areas accessible from the dashboard.

Coworkers (Agents)

Autonomous translation and review agents, guided by your Intelligence Fabric. Chain them sequentially, each refining the previous agent's output, to reduce human review.

  • Translation Agents — AI agents that handle translation automatically using your Intelligence Fabric assets

  • Review Agents — AI agents that review translated content for quality and consistency. Currently in beta and requires individual setup; contact your account manager to get started.

Skills

The building blocks that turn translation into a repeatable process — translation profiles that tell your Intelligence Fabric exactly how to be used, rules for every file format, and integrations with your CMS, PIM, and cloud storage.

  • Translation Profiles — Saved configurations that define how your AI translation should behave for a given project or workflow

  • Integrations — Connections to your CMS, PIM, cloud storage, and other tools

  • File Formats — Smartcat's supported file formats and their descriptions

  • Translation Engines — The AI engines available in your workspace to power your translations

Memories

The knowledge that anchors AI to your language — brand terminology, reviewed translations, and each team member's personal preferences.

  • Terminology — Your glossaries of terms that tells Smartcat how specific words and phrases should (or should not) be translated

  • Reviewed Translations — Your translation memories: previously reviewed and approved translations used automatically in future projects

  • Language Insights — Tone of voice, terminology, audience, and style guidance gathered from your website and documents, or added manually

  • Personal Memories — Individual team member preferences that personalize AI output for each user

Scan a website to gather language insights

  1. On the dashboard, click Scan website.

  2. In the Website URL field, enter a public URL (for example, `https://example.com`).

  3. Click Scan website.

Smartcat fetches pages, detects languages, and analyzes company knowledge, terminology, and reviewed translations for your Intelligence Fabric. When the scan finishes, review the results and choose which insights, translation candidates, and glossary candidates to keep.

You can review this information by clicking Language Insights on the Dashboard.

⚠️ The website URL must be a full, public URL starting with `http://` or `https://`.

Analyze documents to extract translation memory and terminology

  1. On the Dashboard, click Upload files.

  2. Upload a single bilingual file, or upload two files — a source document and its translation. Supported formats include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, XLIFF, and images. You can also scan websites from this page.

  3. Select the language for each file if prompted.

  4. Click Analyze.

Smartcat aligns your glossary candidates, translation candidates, and insights. When the analysis finishes, review the suggestions across the Reviewed translations, Glossaries , and Insights tabs, then click Import to add the ones you want. Imported assets are used by default in your next translation.

⚠️ Document analysis requires either one bilingual document, or two files — a source document and its translation of the same content. Smartcat warns you if the two files do not look related.

Work with Language Insights

  1. In Intelligence Fabric Dashboard or dropdown, click Language Insights.

  2. Review your insights — each shows its Source (website, document, or manual).

  1. To add your own, click Add New Insight, choose the Insight type (for example, Tone Of Voice), the Language , and enter the Insight text , then click Save Insight.

  1. To remove insights, select them and click Delete selected.

Language Insights capture tone of voice, terminology, audience, and style guidance so your AI-powered output stays consistent. Intelligence Fabric data can be shared across workspaces, even when the workspaces are in different regions.

FAQs

Where did my translation memory and glossaries go?

They are all in Intelligence Fabric, reached from the Intelligence Fabric item in the global navigation. Nothing was removed — the same assets are now brought together in one place, alongside Language Insights.

Does Smartcat use the extracted assets automatically?

Yes. Translation memory, terminology, and insights you import from a website scan or a document analysis are used by default in your next translation.

What is a Language Insight?

A Language Insight is a piece of workspace guidance — tone of voice, terminology, audience, or style — that keeps your AI output consistent. Smartcat can gather insights automatically from your website and documents, and you can also add your own.
