Troubleshooting: access denied or insufficient rights error
Overview
If you see an "Access denied due to insufficient rights" error when trying to open a task or project, this is usually caused by one of three things. Work through each solution in order.
————————————————————————————————————————
When to use it
You see an "Access denied due to insufficient rights" error when opening a project or task link
You accepted a project invitation but cannot open the task
You previously had access to a project but can no longer open it
————————————————————————————————————————
How to use it
Solution 1: Check and switch your regional server
Smartcat operates multiple regional servers (Europe, Asia, USA). You must be logged into the same regional server as the workspace that assigned the task.
To switch your regional server:
On the homepage, click the icon in the upper-left corner and select a region. You can try different regions, too. If only one is available, the server region is not the cause of the error.
If possible, confirm with your client which server their workspace is on
If the regional server was the issue, the task opens successfully.
Solution 2: Clear your browser cache
This error can be caused by outdated session or permission data stored in your browser.
Try a hard refresh first:
Windows: Ctrl + R or F5
Mac: Cmd + R
If that doesn't resolve it, clear your browser cache:
Windows: Ctrl + Shift + Delete
Mac: Cmd + Shift + Delete
Close the browser completely, then log in and try again
Result: Outdated session data is cleared and the task opens successfully.
Solution 3: Confirm you are using the correct account
If you have more than one Smartcat account or belong to multiple vendor teams, you may be logged into the wrong account.
Check which account you are currently logged into
Confirm it is the same account that received the project invitation
Log out and log back in with the correct credentials if needed
Use the account or team switcher if available to select the correct vendor team
Result: You are logged in with the account that has access to the task.
Workaround: access the task via the Job Status page
If none of the above resolves the issue, try this alternative route:
Log in to Smartcat
Go to My tasks in the sidebar
Open the Job Status page
Find the task and open it from there
Result: You can access the task without using the original invitation link.
