IRS Form Completion and Submission

In order to comply with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”) rules governing information reporting and tax withholding on certain income received, Smartcat is required by law to obtain IRS forms from you.

We only use your tax information for required U.S. governmental reporting purposes. Please follow the instructions below to determine the appropriate form to complete:

  • If you are a U.S. citizen (even if you reside outside the United States) or a resident of the United States, please complete Form W-9.
  • If you are not a resident of the United States, and you are an individual (not a legal entity), please complete Form W8-BEN.
  • If you are a non-U.S. legal entity, please complete Form W8-BEN-E.

Please note that if you are a non-U.S. resident, you have no tax obligations in the United States, and we need to have the respective tax form (W8-BEN or W-8BEN-E) as evidence that you are not subject to any deductions.

Note that Smartcat suspends future payments until a completed tax form has been received.

Find the instruction for Form W-9 inside the Form. The instruction for Form W-8BEN and W-8BEN-E can be found here.
