New pop-up message to complete translation review in Editor

When you or your team are reviewing translations, you'll see a pop-up message if you want to leave Smartcat Editor and you have not yet completed the translation review, i.e. confirmed all of the segments. You may still leave Editor, however, this will help you and your reviewers not miss anything when translating texts or reviewing translations.

  • If you are a project manager, you'll see a message asking if you'd like to invite a reviewer, and you'll be brought to the tasks page of your project.

  • If you are a reviewer, you'll see a message asking if you want to continue editing.

New languages: Uzbek (Latin), Serbian (Latin), and Azerbaijani (Latin)

We have now added three new languages to our platform in the Latin (Roman) alphabet: Uzbek, Serbian, and Azerbaijani. You can translate these languages instantly with Smartcat AI and review them in Smartcat Editor.

Upload any document to our projects and translate them into these languages in seconds. Then, you can hire a subject-matter-expert reviewer from Smartcat Marketplace to edit and fine-tune your translation to ensure it meets your voice, terminology, and style preferences.

To set up these languages for AI translation, go to the pre-translation settings of your project to configure them under the generative AI translation option.

New button added to Editor toolbar! Revert to previous stage

We have added a new button to our toolbar in Smartcat Editor! Using this button, you can now rollback to the previous stage for one or all languages and their batch version. You can revert one segment, selected segments, or all segments.

What is a stage?

A translation stage are the various steps in your translation process. For example, you could be using AI translation to translate your content in seconds, followed by editing or proofreading, and lastly by an LQA review. Pressing this button in this toolkit would instantly revert the translation back to that previous stage. So, if an AI translation was edited, it would then return to its "raw" AI translation state before editing.

You can now merge segments from different paragraphs in Smartcat Editor

You can now merge segments from different paragraphs in Smartcat Editor! The ¶ symbol shows the edges of paragraphs after merging. This highly anticipated improvement won't affect how the downloaded document will look. Smartcat still provides results with the same structure and formatting as the original (source) document.

So, how does it work?

By selecting two segments, you can merge them using the Merge button in the Editor toolbar. You then get a single segment where text from the two original segments is split by the paragraph marker (¶). This symbol will be used to split text back into original segments when you export the resulting translated document.

A note for project managers

When working with freelancers from the Marketplace, the segments must be merged before the project is assigned. If one or more segments already have translation memory matches, merging them after the project has started will affect the project’s statistics.

Merging is reflected for all project target languages

When you merge segments in one language, it will also merge them for all languages. In some instances, the project may need to unconfirm segments to ensure these are properly reviewed by the subject-matter-experts or reviewers.

Change to display names for anonymous users

We've rolled out a feature to bolster user privacy, especially benefiting linguists. Formerly identified as "Name Hidden," users will now appear as A**** N****, a universal safeguard using the first letters of their first and last names along with four asterisks.

This enhancement proves particularly advantageous for corporate clients and linguists engaged in collaborative projects. Whether a corporate client assigns a Linguistic Service Provider (LSP) or the LSP assigns a freelancer, the client's project manager will now see an anonymized version, such as "I**** K****." It ensures that crucial information remains confidential during communication and revision processes. Additionally, linguists assigned from different organizations to various workflow stages will enjoy heightened privacy, such as LQA Reviewers who won't have access to the linguist's name during the review process, creating a secure and confidential work environment.

Threads are visible for everyone in the LQA-project. But names are hidden:

  • Manager sees everyone's names. In the manager's view, everyone Name has the (name hidden from others) icon next to it

  • Assignee (freelancer, linguist) and reviewers only sees manager's name,  while others are anonymous

  • When manager tags someone with @mention, the name will remain hidden for those who are not allowed to see that name.

New cue splitting options available for MP4 files

Now, you can do much more when you upload MP4 files to Smartcat, such as split by cues, set a segment length limit, merge and split segments, and add new lines. These features came in handy with VTT files using the VTT parser, and now they can be used for MP4 files as well.
