Assigning tasks just got even easier

First up, a new Assign to team button has been added to the Assignment page. With just one click of this button, job invitations are instantly sent out to all of the linguists from your team that match your requirements. The invitations are pre-set to Rocket mode, meaning that the first linguist to accept the job is automatically assigned all of the relevant stage’s segments.

To ensure that the linguists who receive job invitations meet your needs, we apply two key criteria to our search: service type and language pair. You can apply two more parameters: project subject matter and client.

This button will surely save project managers lots of time.

Next up, Smartcat now keeps records of the translators you assign for each specific customer. So when you come to assign a task in subsequent projects, Smartcat will display any translators you have previously hired for that customer at the top of the drop-down list.

This means that project managers are no longer tasked with remembering who participated in whose project. Just one of many ways we have made the search for a translator who suits the customer’s requirements even easier.

While we’re at it, here’s another couple of simple ways to become more efficient at assigning translators to tasks:

  1. When creating projects, specifying the subject helps to cut down the time it takes to find the right linguist(s) for the job. You can also set the subject for an existing project.

  2. Make sure that each member of your team has a completed profile: provide details of their services, and subjects covered — don’t forget to link them with their past customers. The more information you can provide the automatic assignment tool with, the more accurate its results will be. Some of the profiles you added from our internal database of freelancers are bound to contain subjects which are of no interest to you. In this case, simply hide them from your view (don’t worry, their public profile will not be affected).

  3. When creating a new project, it’s good to get into the habit of linking it to “its” customer — doing so not only makes navigation around your projects easier, it also enables Smartcat to automatically provide you with any translation memory databases and glossaries linked to that customer. With the new Assign to team button, Smartcat can now also create project teams for you.

Add translation companies to your team

The last release allowed translation companies to show off their corporate profiles to potential customers and get hired via Smartcat just like freelancers.

This time around, customers now can add translation companies to their teams, and assign them tasks.

We also recommend that LSPs with open profiles make sure the services they provide and the language pairs, including specific dialects, they cover are listed correctly in their profile.

If you’re a Smartcat customer, please share this information with your vendors.

Lots of companies are already offering their services through Smartcat, take a look for yourself: https://smartcat.ai/translation-companies.

Local bank transfers in four new countries

We’re also proud to announce that translation companies based in four more countries — Australia, Turkey, Ukraine, and the UK — can now use Smartcat to pay their suppliers, and also pay for Smartcat services using their local bank account (via bank transfer).

In addition, translation companies from these countries now can automatically create invoices and pay via local bank transfer in their own currency instead of making international/foreign-currency transfers. This is fantastic news for translation companies, as they can start saving the money they used to shell out on conversion fees.

British companies are now able to automatically generate invoices requesting payments be made via local bank transfer in GBP and also set GBP as their balance currency.

New currencies added: Australian Dollar and British Pound Sterling

Freelance translators residing in Australia and the UK will now be able to set their rates and receive payments in their respective local currencies.

New chat function connects PMs with project creators

Project managers at vendor LSPs can now start a chat with the project creator from the customer’s company using the Start chat button on the project page. This tweak makes it much easier for project managers to clarify the finer details of the project at hand.

Auto-calculation of costs and deadlines via Client Portal

You can now enable auto-calculation of project price and deadline in the Client Portal, saving both project managers’ and customers’ time.

This feature is available upon request — write to us at support@smartcat.ai if you want it.

Improved handling of translation metadata in Smartcat XLIFF

Segments in XLIFF files downloaded from Smartcat now contain additional information about any segments that were not translated manually:

  • Unedited TM match of 100% or higher
  • Unedited TM match of 99% or lower
  • Edited TM match
  • Unedited machine translation
  • Edited machine translation

This information is recorded in accordance with the XLIFF 1.2 standard and can be used on any system which supports XLIFF files.

Integration with Google Drive and Plunet

Now you can easily transfer documents from Google Drive into Smartcat using Zapier. It will take just a few minutes to set up the integration.

In addition, we’ve built an integration to load your invoices from the Plunet TMS directly into Smartcat to pay your vendors with Smartcat quickly and with low transaction fees.

The integration requires Plunet version 7.3 or higher. If you would like to know more, drop us a line at support@smartcat.ai.

One last thing, we thought it was about time we added support for the Maltese language! Hello dinja!
